Dear Richard,
I appreciate you writing me.  How can I keep my dog
from catching smaller hogs.

Well, short of snipping his canines like some other
hunters I know do or running him with a mask, or
simply in time-him possibly getting beat back by hogs
will make him step back and bay, I really dont know
what to tell you.

It seems your dog is just one of those dogs that
gonna "try" a hog.  Hope hes not your main strike dog,
they last alot more years if they will stand back and
bay.

Ive heard of people trying to break them of it with
a shock collar in a pen, but i have never tried it, I
am always scared he will think Im shocking him because
hes on the hog baying rather than his bite.

As I mentioned, there are some hunters that snip the
canines of the dogs to where they cant hold on.
Several seem to believe in this method.  We have only
clipped one male hound, but he still tries to catch,
just cant lock down as good as he could before.

Good luck, which I had better advice for you.  If you
find something that works, let me know.  Maybe you can
help me next time...   smile

Jim
