Hello Brandon,
I appreciate you taking the time to write. First off, I want
to tell
you I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your blackmouth gyp. Especially
in the manner you lost her. Its always hard to loose a good one.
Your question "Would a Dalmatian and a treeing walker work for
baydogs?" has believe it or not a real simple answer.
If the dog
bays, finds or catches a hog (and evidently they do) like you want a hog
dog to do, They will work just fine.
I've said many times, that it doesn't matter if its a registered,
grade, line bred, 100 years of hog hunting ancestors or even a heinz 57
from the pound, If the dog will hunt like its owner wants one to do,
that's all that counts.
Now after saying that, if your asking me if I would go out and
FIND a
Dalmatian to try for hog hunting, I would say "no I wouldn't".
But I
am sure there is someone out there that has some they use for hog
hunting.
In regards to treeing walkers---There are lots and lots of big game
hunters that hunt from coons to lions, to bears, to wild hogs that use
treeing walkers. But do I have any treeing walkers here at my house
that I use? The answer is no. I have some that have running walker (fox
hound) blood in them, but no treeing walker.
Go ahead and try the dogs on some hunts, see how they work.
It seems
to be evident that they will bay a hog, so give the dog the benefit of
the doubt and see what happens.
Good luck and good hunting,
Jim
