Dear Tabitha,
Thanks so much for taking the time to write. Its always nice to get
a
question from the ladies gender. BEST DOGS.......
Without sounding sarcastic, The best kind of hog dog is one that will
find a hog like the owner or buyer of the dog likes one to work...
That's the bottom line. It makes no difference what breed, wither
registered or grade, who's dog its out of, size, shape, color, male or
female. What ever the dog is, he has got to hunt like the owner of him
wants one to hunt ignored to be a good dog. I feel anyone who has
dogs
that can find hogs on a consistent basis, has good hog dogs. That's
not to say that he would like my dogs or I like his/hers for my own use.
Hunting styles that a person likes or ways he/she hunts or even the
type terrain a person has to hunt on comes into play also on wither they
will like a particular dog or not. I like one that will go hunting
on
his own and stay gone, or can be put on a track and will do his best to
track that particular hog down, or can be rigged or hood hunted off the
four wheeler. But I have friends that absolutely hate long range
dogs,
the main reason is because they either don't have tracking units, or the
acreage they have to hunt is small and the dog ranges way out of the
territory.
So this is why when a person ask, "what is the best dog for a hog
dog?" I cant answer them with a certain breed. Because there is
no
breed, breeder, or genetic line that is the best one in my opinion.
My suggestion would be for you to go hunting with someone and their
dogs, and see if you like the dogs they are using. That's a good place
to start.
Good hunting
Jim
