Dear Pat,
I appreciate you taking time to write. The way I worm.Well, since I wrote that article, I've decided to go back to the Safeguard paste when I get thru with this bottle.    It was probably my fault in dosage amounts, but I had two dogs turn up with tape worms.  I cant stand tape worms.  The dogs cant help getting them, but they have a job to do for me, and I feel its my job to make sure they are healthy as I can get them, and CLEAN OF WORMS, TICKS AND HOPEFULLY FLEAS (The fleas and I have "wrestlemania" in the summer time...haha)  Nobody else around here that uses Valbazen, has any tape worms, I'm the only one, so thats why I figure it was my fault on dosage amount.    But to me, its kinda like having a bull dog that works and works and that one time he doesnt catch.....I loose faith in him. Oh well.

Back to your question about timing.     I give the ivomec say on the first, then wait about 4 days and give them the safeguard or what ever triple wormer that you are using that pleases you.

If I could say one thing that anyone would ever remember about Ivomec it's this-------DONT RELY ON IVOMEC AS THE ONLY WORMER you use and give it to no dog that has shepard or collie in it.    I only rely on ivomec for heartworms.

As Ive mentioned before,  the use of Ivomec is quite controversial.   Lord, on the internet message boards, a person ask about Ivomec and the board lights up for awhile.  Its one of those controversial subjects.     Some people swear its killed their or some friend of theirs dogs, or destroyed a dogs liver or kidneys or voice cords.     I just know that Ive been giving it to my dogs for years along with my families dogs and have never lost a dog.   Just recently a friend of mine and I talked back and forth about it, he had his view and I had mine.  He  gives the same dosage I do, but only once every 3 months.  He likes it and has had no problems with  heartworms, so hes pleased with the way he does it.   Im no one to change his mind and don't intend to.   But for ME,    I didnt just come up with the idea of 1/10th of a cc per 10 lbs body weight, It came from MY VETS.,  recomendation.  (yours might say something different, so go by his recomendation)   As recently as   2/18/99 I took a dog to be checked for heartworms for a fella and she checked out clean,  (ive never had one turn out positive).   When he got thru with his test, he asked me "what heartworm treatment program are your dogs on?"    I replied that I was using Ivomec.  He asked what dosage do you give?    I told him the 1/10th of a cc per 10LBs of body weight.   He said that was the correct amount to use if I was doing the treating my self..   So Im not tellin anyone that my way is the best way or even to use this dosage or given frequency.   All I'm saying is this is what I use and until some reason comes up, I'll keep doing what im doing.

Good luck hunting,

Jim
