Hello Kyle,

Thanks for taking the time to write from "Down Under". Your question is "Have you had any experience with hunting, using the American pitbull, could you give me any detials about using pitbulls as hunting dogs?" Well to answer your question, Yes, Ive used Pits while hunting wild hogs for years. Almost all hog hunters over here in the states use pits or one of the bull dog breeds while hunting hogs. Most people over here use them strickly as catch dogs or what yall refer to as a "hold dog". However, some people do hunt with them. Over the years, we have had a number of pits that had good noses on them. I dont mean that they had a cold nose and could run an old track like a houndish dog, but what I mean is they use there nose to wind a hog. Its like any dog tho, not all of them will do it, just like not all of them will catch. But most do. Over here in the states, there are different "lines" of pits. There are alot of good ones, but the ones we personally have had the best luck with are what we refer to as "Carver bred" pits. We have also used "Boudreaux". But thats just a personal preference. There lots of others out there that are better than these im sure. But we tried the carver line and have good luck with it. Almost all we have tried catch good, have a decent nose, and most are good natured towards people and other dogs. But Im REAL REAL picky on pits. My last one, I looked over 2 yrs before I found the one with the temperment, gameness, and over all good traits that I wanted in a dog. I wont feed or own a aggressive bull dog or one I wouldnt feel comfortable around and especially one that I have no confidence in doing his job of catching. When I reach down to grab the back legs of a boar to throw him down to tie him up, I WANT TO KNOW that the dog holding on that ear will not let go. I like pits, they are beautiful dogs. Lots of times they get a bad rap and sometimes deservingly so. But its been my experience that its usually the handlers, trainers, owners or breeders fault for having ones that are agressive. But thats just my opinion. Hope this helps with answering your question.
