Hello Kyle,
Its nice to get a question from my part of the woods....haha   You cant find a strike dog and can I help you find one?

Well, I personally cant help you.  I hold on to mine.  But you are from a unique county.  In my opinon, you are probably in the hog hunter capitol of Texas....hahaha     Well, im sure others will disagree with that statement.  But I just know that our county has got hundreds of dog hog hunters and its getting larger all the time.   Now, with that said, Your going to have to find a way to sift thru all the dogs to find one you want.

Here is my suggestion for you personally since we hunt over the same dirt, and know probably alot of the same people.   Go to Brazoria to Rockys feed.  Talk to Rocky and see if he has heard of one for sale. He hasnt hunted with everyones dog, but everyone comes to Rockys to get feed and talk hog hunting...haha   If he doesnt know about any, put a Wanted poster on his message board.   Someone is sure to see it.   Next, go to the bayings that are in the county once or twice a month.   Our countys bayings are to me, alot different than the bayings in east/north texas and beyond.   The reason is, The bayings in our county are composed of just plain ole hog hunters, there is no advertising other than maybe a flier handed out or word of mouth.   Very few, if any of the people that come to them are pen dog people.   There is always someone there that will have dogs for sale.  I learned along time ago that just because a dog bays a hog good in a pen, doesnt mean hes worth a hoot in the woods.    Thats not the case a 100% of the time, but it is true more than not.

Just go to the bayings and visit.  Everyone there likes to talk dogs and hogs.   All the dogs you hear about might not be as good as they sound when your out in the woods and the tail gate is dropped. But its a place to start.

When you find you a dog your interested in, get you a trial period to try the dog out.  Get it in writing.  If this is going to be your only find/strike dog, dont try him out with other dogs on the ground unless thats the way you intend to hunt.    If the dogs anygood, he will find one on his own with out any help from other dogs.

Good luck in your search, call me sometime if your needing someone to go along with you on one of your hunts if your needing a partner...

Jim
